Yes, you can play games on a Galaxy Watch. Galaxy Watch4 and every newer model run Wear OS, so they install games from Google Play like any other watch app, and so does Pixel Watch. Which watches can play Wear OS games?
Any watch running Wear OS can install games from Google Play. That covers Galaxy Watch4 and all newer Galaxy Watch models, Pixel Watch, and watches from other brands that run Wear OS. Older Galaxy watches such as Galaxy Watch3 and Watch Active2 run Tizen, so Google Play games won't install on them.
Before you install, check the game's Google Play page. Games with a watch version can be installed on your watch from the phone, and the description usually says whether the game itself runs on the watch or only sends notifications there.
How to install games from the watch
Open the Play Store app on the watch and search by voice or keyboard, or scroll through the featured apps. Open the game and tap Install. When the download finishes, the game appears in the watch's app list.
The watch needs a connection to download: Wi-Fi, the paired phone, or LTE on cellular models. The watch's Play Store also lists watch versions of apps you already have on your phone, so a game you installed there may be one tap away.
How to install apps on Galaxy Watch from your phone
Open the Play Store on your phone and find the game. If it has a watch version, the Install button lets you pick your watch as the install target. Choose the watch and install, and the game is sent to it over the connection.
On a Galaxy Watch, the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone also shows the apps installed on the watch, and on a Pixel Watch the Pixel Watch app does the same. Use them to check that a game actually reached the watch.
How you play: touch, bezel, crown and haptics
Most watch games are built around one or two simple inputs. You tap or swipe the screen, and on many models you also turn something: the rotating bezel on Galaxy Watch Classic models or the crown on Pixel Watch. The watch's vibration motor lets games give you taps on the wrist.
In Cozy Fishing you tap to cast and reel with a swipe or a turn of the crown. A session takes 15 to 40 seconds, which fits the watch well: a minute in a queue or a short break.
Do you need your phone nearby?
A Wear OS watch pairs with an Android phone for setup, but once a game is installed, many play on the watch alone. Games with online modes, leaderboards or downloadable content need a connection, and the Google Play description usually says so.
Cozy Fishing needs no internet and no account, so it plays the same on a plane, on a run or anywhere without signal.
How to remove a game from the watch
Open the watch's app list, then touch and hold the game and choose uninstall. You can also open the Play Store on the watch, find the game and uninstall it from its page.
Uninstalling from the watch doesn't remove the phone version of the same game, so delete that separately if you no longer want it.
